Job summary

Southland Industries in Austin, TX seeks a Design Engineer I to contribute to design-build and design-assist projects across healthcare, education, biotech, mission critical, commercial and entertainment markets.

You’ll collaborate with model coordinators, estimators, and field staff to produce practical, efficient designs, using VDC and CFD feedback to optimize performance and cost.

A four-year degree is required; PE license preferred; strong communication and CAD skills are expected.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems.
• Ability to read mechanical and plumbing plans.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient with CADD and Microsoft Office (Excel).
• Four-year degree; PE license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic deliverables and products such as calculations, drawings, and specifications related to HVAC systems under supervision.
• Performs basic calculations for a project, such as heating/cooling loads, equipment sizing, and friction loss.
• Assist in coordinating all aspects of the project design with project management, architects, and other trades through completion.
• Perform and check CADD drafting work.
