Baltimore Aircoil Company, Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer - Data Centers in Jessup, MD to deliver timely and accurate technical design solutions, drawings, BOMs, and quotes for BAC customers and representatives.

The role requires a BS in Engineering and 3+ years in mechanical design or related fields, with experience in HVAC or data center facilities preferred. Strong communication, Inventor and AutoCAD skills, and ability to collaborate across departments are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering is required.
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, product design, applications engineering, or related role in manufacturing.
  • Experience with HVAC systems; data center or mission-critical facility experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide equipment selections, 2D drawings, and submittals for BAC customers and representatives.
  • Develop mechanical and/or electrical designs based on project requirements and standards.
  • Evaluate design alternatives to optimize cost, manufacturability, reliability, and performance.
  • Ensure designs comply with codes, standards, and customer requirements.
  • Build BOM for fulfillment from purchasing to fabrication and installation.
  • Define components, materials, quantities, and part numbers for configured products.
  • Provide technical support and customization quotes to BAC representatives.

POSITION PURPOSE

The Design Engineer - Data Centers is responsible for providing timely and knowledgeable technical design solutions as well as accurate drawings, bill of materials, selections, and quotes to BAC representatives and customers.

The Design Engineer - Data Centers is responsible for providing timely and knowledgeable technical design solutions as well as accurate drawings, bill of materials, selections, and quotes to BAC representatives and customers.

NATURE & SCOPE

Reporting to the Technical Manager – Data Centers, this position provides technical applications support and customized quotes to BAC representatives and customers in the Americas region through oral and written communication, in a timely and accurate fashion. This position will have interaction with all levels of Corporate Headquarters and the North American manufacturing plants.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Provide BAC customers & representatives with equipment selections, customized 2D drawings, and submittals.
  • Develop mechanical and/or electrical designs based on project requirements and engineering standards.
  • Evaluate design alternatives to optimize cost, manufacturability, reliability, and performance.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements.
  • Build BOM for use in the fulfilment of orders from purchasing to fabrication, assembly, and installation.
  • Define components, materials, quantities, and part numbers based on configured products with customized options.
  • Provide technical applications support and customization quotes to BAC Representatives through oral and written communication in a timely and accurate fashion
  • Assist Warranty Services and customers in troubleshooting problems with installed equipment
  • Interact with all departments at BAC (Marketing, Customer Service, Manufacturing, Engineering, Warranty Services, Sales, Credit) to support quotations and orders
  • Organize data and tools to improve the product applications process – Work with Engineering and Customer Service to improve order flow and processing of product customizations
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare and present technical presentations and training to department team members, or sales representatives, as required
  • Occasional travel to plants, representative offices or job sites visits to inspect installations, gather competitive information and give technical presentations to customers
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering required
  • 3+ years experience in mechanical design, product design, applications engineering, or a related engineering role within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude in order to develop an in-depth knowledge of BAC’s extensive product portfolio. Experience with commercial/industrial HVAC systems; data center or mission‑critical facility experience strongly preferred.
  • Requires excellent written communication and phone skills, flexibility in handling a wide range of tasks, attention to detail, and effective interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Proficient in design software including Inventor and AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of engineering standards, tolerances, and drawing practices.
  • Proficient in the use of office software programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, CPQ programs.
  • Strong team player orientation required to provide customer satisfaction in a dynamic environment, with a customer‑focused (internal and external), “can‑do”, professional demeanor, and sense of urgency
  • Ability to resolve complex problems accurately and in a timely manner.

This is a normal manufacturing environment, with normal hazards associated with metal working equipment. This position requires occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs, and travel up to 15% of the time.

BAC Hiring Compensation Range $63,500-$108,800
