Job summary

Actalent is actively hiring a Design Engineer for our Pella, IA site. This contract role focuses on improving utility equipment across the product lifecycle, driving design enhancements for performance, reliability, and cost, and collaborating with Manufacturing, Quality,Service, and Supply Chain teams.

The ideal candidate has a Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering background, 1+ year SolidWorks experience, and familiarity with sheet metal design and FEA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Agricultural Engineering is required.
• At least 1 year of SolidWorks experience, including internships or projects.
• Experience with sheet metal design and fabrication considerations.
• Ability to support new product development and prototype activities.
• Basic knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate design performance.
• Strong collaboration with cross-functional teams to meet requirements.

Responsibilities

• Drive continuous improvement for utility equipment across the product lifecycle.
• Develop and implement design enhancements to optimize performance and manufacturability.
• Create/refine mechanical designs using SolidWorks and other CAD tools.
• Support new product development from concept through prototype and production release.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Service, and Supply Chain to meet requirements.
• Provide engineering support during testing/validation and in field issue resolution.
• Use FEA and other tools to enhance design robustness.
• Document design changes and maintain engineering records.
