Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Distribution Design Engineer to join a team upgrading a major energy provider's distribution grids. You will develop design and construction work packages for electrical distribution systems from 4kV to 138kV, supporting programmatic work and inspections.

The role requires CAD proficiency, strong communication skills, and ability to travel to sites for inspections and follow-up design work, with a focus on safety and adherence to standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution.
• Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools experience.
• Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV.
• Comply with safety requirements and design and quality expectations.
• Travel to sites as needed, perform inspections and return to the office to perform engineering design work.
• Perform engineering calculations (structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying, conductor sag/tension, voltage drop and flicker).
• Develop permitting documents for different AHJs.
• Provide engineering support during construction and post-construction reviews.
• Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles.

Job description

A company is looking for a Distribution Design Engineer to join their team. This engineer will aide in the upgrades of a major energy providers distribution grids.

• Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV mostly associated with programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports.


• Comply with Leidos and Client Safety requirements as well as design and quality expectations.


• Travel to sites as needed, perform inspections and return to the office to perform engineering design work.


• Perform engineering calculations such as: structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.


• Develop permitting documents for different AHJ’s.


• Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.


• Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.

Desired Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution


• Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools experience


• Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills

Nice to Have Skills & Experience:

• Construction background, design work, civil engineering, electrical experience and programming experience


• Work Management Systems (WMS) SAP B1 and/or SAGE Experience


• Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc or similar


• Experience with NESC - Experience with design standards
