Job summary

Custom Truck One Source is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and analyze truck-mounted equipment structures. You will create 3D models in SolidWorks, generate detail drawings, and collaborate with procurement to prototype parts.

You will develop test procedures and interpret results to improve safety, weight, and crane stability. Qualifications include a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or Technology, 2+ years in engineering, and proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and ERP systems

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
• 2+ years' engineering experience with design of mechanical structures.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD; strong BOM understanding.
• Experience with MRP/ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Epicor, Infor).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

Responsibilities

• Own design and analysis of mechanical structures and components.
• Develop new products using 3D modeling (SolidWorks) and detail drawings.
• Coordinate prototype parts with procurement and manage prototype creation.
• Create test procedures and support testing for functional, structural, and stability.
• Evaluate machine weight, balance for road worthiness and crane stability.
• Support publications with parts books and service manuals.
• Review ECO/ECR processes and implement recommended changes.

SUMMARY

Design mechanical structures and systems for truck mounted equipment that meet the applicable standards and to perform the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ownership of design and analysis of mechanical structures and components.
• Deep understanding of Bill of Material (BOM) structures.
• Develop new products using 3D solid modeling software (SolidWorks).
• Create detail drawings of 3D models (SolidWorks).
• Work with procurement team to order prototype parts and manage creation of prototypes.
• Create test procedures and work with testing dept to implement functional, structural, and stability testing.
• Make modifications to new designs based on results of testing.
• Evaluate machine weight and balance for road worthiness and crane stability.
• Create sales support drawings.
• Analyze product failures, develop repairs and redesign accordingly.
• Assist technical publications in creation of manuals (parts books, service manuals, operator manuals).
• ECR review and recommend approval/rejection.
• ECO creation and give recommendations on implementation.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• 2+ years' experience in an engineering capacity.
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
• Proficient in engineering design software - 3D and 2D (SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Structural Design - Welded steel structures.
• Understanding and use of MRP/ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Epicor, Infor, xetc).

PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Two (2) years of engineering experience in manufacturing environmentor,
• Two (2) years of engineering experience in automotive design related field or,
• Two (2) years of engineering experience in vocational truck assembly.
• Ability to identify complex build challenges and implement solutions quickly and correctly.
• Ability to weld.
• Ability to understand 12V electrical systems.
• Ability to understand hydraulic plumbing systems.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

• Ability to read and interpret documents; ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Must also possess the ability to speak effectively with customers or employees of organization.
