Job summary

EnerSys is seeking a Battery Design Engineer to be responsible for engineering analyses on molten salt batteries, including design, prototype fabrication, and testing. The role involves leading a team of technicians, performing research in various engineering disciplines, and ensuring that design solutions meet customer and company standards. Ideal candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in related fields and possess knowledge in Solid Works, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office. This position is based in Florida and offers competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in either Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Working knowledge of Solid Works, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Project is required.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills are required.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and capabilities, military, industry, and federal standards.

Responsibilities

  • Design components or major portions of a battery system for improvements.
  • Manage technicians and assemblers for program objectives like prototype hardware testing.
  • Perform research, design, and development in mechanical, chemical, and electrical engineering functions.
  • Develop specifications and preliminary layouts for design proposals.
  • Coordinate with other organizations affected by design development.

Job Purpose

Responsible for battery design and engineering analyses on molten salt batteries. Analyses includes conceptual and detailed design, trade‑off studies, estimates, and calculations for energy storage and power conversion devices. Activities include prototype fabrication, test, and evaluation. The selected engineer will work with other members of the engineering department to create design solutions that meet customer requirements and company objectives. The selected engineer will also work with the Quality and Manufacturing functions to ensure products are delivered to the highest possible standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Designs components or major portions of a battery system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.
  • Supervisory responsibilities will include the management of technicians and assemblers to accomplish program objectives, such as the build and test of prototype hardware and batteries.
  • Performs research, design, and development in such areas as mechanical, chemical, electrical, and other related engineering design functions.
  • Develops specifications for selecting components and equipment to use. Utilizing computer‑aided design equipment, develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal.
  • Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength‑weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost.
  • Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development.
  • Makes layouts of assemblies and details parts and also responsible for prototype fabrication.
  • The successful candidate will also prepare and present technical design and data at program review meetings.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in either Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Working knowledge of Solid Works and AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project is required.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills are required.
  • Working knowledge of ANSYS is a plus.
  • Analysis software (COSMOSM or ProMechanica) is a plus.
  • Planning, analytical, assertive, and ability to interact with other groups.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and capabilities, military, industry, and federal standards.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification is a plus.
