Role Description

The Design Consultant is a full-time, on-site role based in Louisville, KY. This position is responsible for guiding customers through furniture and furnishings selections, creating design solutions that align with their lifestyle, aesthetic preferences, and budget. Day-to-day tasks include greeting and engaging showroom visitors, conducting design consultations, preparing layout suggestions, and presenting product options and finishes. The Design Consultant will manage the sales process from initial contact through purchase, including quoting, order entry, and follow-up to ensure satisfaction. The role also involves maintaining showroom displays, staying current on product lines and design trends, collaborating with team members, and providing consistent, high-quality customer service.

Qualifications

• Strong customer service skills, with the ability to build rapport, listen actively, and provide tailored design guidance.
• Proficiency in sales, including consultative selling, closing techniques, and meeting individual and store performance targets.
• Knowledge of interior design principles and space planning, with the ability to translate customer needs into cohesive design plans.
• Understanding of furniture and furnishings, including materials, finishes, product features, and care recommendations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with clear, professional verbal and written abilities.
• Comfort working in a retail showroom environment, including weekends and peak seasonal periods as needed.
• Ability to use basic design and sales tools (e.g., POS systems, email, spreadsheets; experience with design software is a plus).
• Prior experience in furniture retail, interior design, or a related customer-facing role preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in design, art, or a related field is beneficial.
