Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
• Occasional statewide overnight travel may be required.
• Postsecondary degree is the best measure to ensure knowledge in applied physics and mathematics, drafting, engineering processes and procedures, project management, industry ethical standards, and data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Designs projects including bridge replacements and resurfacing using engineering software and prepares reconnaissance and conceptual reports.
• Determines highway design features such as geometrics, standards, profiles, earthwork quantities, signaling, signing, lighting, construction staging, traffic control, drainage, and safety improvements; uses CAD and other software for computations and plans.
• Assists in developing and reviewing detailed preliminary plans, right-of-way plans, and final plans for complex projects including interchanges, urban, or major bridge projects.
• Computes quantities and estimates costs for projects from preliminary to final stages to support short-term and long-term planning.
• In conjunction with a Professional Land Surveyor, obtains and plots land and property lines on plans; computes areas; ties right-of-way points to centerlines.
