Job summary

Steve Madden is seeking a Design Assistant to support the Designer and Design Director in the day-to-day operations of the design department. This role involves organizing sample rooms, tracking orders, and helping prepare line sheets and correspondences for the team.

Responsibilities include creating swatch books, maintaining up-to-date sample records, communicating with vendors, assisting in trend forecasting, and travel as needed.

General Summary: This position assists the Designer and Design Director in the day-to-day operations of the design department.

Major Responsibilities

• Create swatch books for all fabrics, trim, used in design
• Maintain an up-to-date picture record of all samples and also an up-to-date file of all names and style numbers
• Check in all orders received and handle all shipping
• Keep all sample rooms organized
• Track all sample orders, and ad samples
• Collaborate in sketching and detailing
• Collaborate in designing the product line
• Create line sheets
• Preparation of correspondences, spreadsheets, and forms
• Communicate with vendors
• Assists in the confirmation process
• Assists in brand direction and trend forecasting
• Domestic and International travel
• Special projects as needed
• Other duties as required

Education, Licenses, Certificates, Registrations And/or Experience

• College degree in Arts/Fashion preferred
• Ability to sketch and CAD
• 2-4 years experience in the field
• Creative background a plus
• Proficiency Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, Photoshop, and Illustrator
