Job summary

Star Ride Kids Inc. in New York City is seeking a Design Assistant to support the design team through the full product development process. You will help create and maintain tech packs, review submissions, and assist with CAD and artwork as needed.

This entry-level role offers exposure to buyers, vendors, and factories within the wholesale children's apparel business, with growth potential as you gain hands-on experience across design and development.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of experience in apparel design, product development, or related field preferred; strong entry-level candidates will also be considered.
  • Degree or coursework in Fashion Design, Apparel Design, or related field preferred.
  • Strong understanding of apparel construction and garment terminology.
  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; knowledge of CAD and technical design software is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies in garments, artwork, color, and specifications.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and follow-up skills. Ability to work collaboratively with designers, production teams, buyers, and vendors.
  • Interest in children's fashion and understanding of current kids' apparel trends is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Senior Designer and Designer throughout the apparel design and product development process.
  • Create and maintain detailed tech packs, including measurements, construction details, artwork, and specifications.
  • Review and evaluate product submissions, including lab dips, strike-offs, samples, and other development submissions.
  • Evaluate overall garment appearance, including color, fabric, construction, trims, artwork, and finishing details.
  • Attend fit sessions and assist with taking notes and communicating necessary fit and construction adjustments.
  • Make CAD and artwork adjustments based on buyer comments, design direction, and fit feedback.
  • Update tech packs and product specifications as changes are made throughout the development process.
  • Communicate design and development changes clearly to internal teams and overseas vendors/factories.
  • Maintain organized files, artwork, samples, and development information.
  • Support the design team with additional projects and day-to-day tasks as needed.

Star Ride Kids is a growing children's apparel wholesale company specializing in fashionable, high-quality clothing for kids. We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Design Assistant to join our NYC design team and work closely with our Senior Designer and Designer throughout the product development process.
