Building Blocks Facades designs, engineers, manufactures, and installs complex GFRC, UHPC, and specialty facade systems for commercial construction. We are hiring a Design Assist Lead to run the design assist phase on our U.S.

projects. You will lead design assist end to end on two to three concurrent projects, coordinating with architects, facade consultants, GCs, and developers, driving system selection and buildability, and converging design intent to a facades solution we can engineer,

About the Role

We are hiring a Design Assist Lead to run the design assist phase on our U.S. projects.

Responsibilities
  • You will lead design assist end to end on two to three concurrent projects: coordinating with architects, facade consultants, general contractors, and developers, driving system selection and buildability resolution, and converging design intent on a facade system we can engineer, manufacture, and install at the estimated cost.
  • Between design assist phases, you will support pre-construction with concept drawings for pursuits and proposal drawings that Estimating prices from.
  • This is a hands-on leadership role. You will produce the drawings and models on the projects you run, not only direct them.
  • Designers are allocated to support production where resourcing allows, and you will direct them when assigned, but production capability is a core requirement of the role.
  • Reports to the Director of Architectural Design.
What you will own
  • The design deliverable schedule on your projects, including dates the team can keep and early escalation when a client-side decision blocks progress.
  • Design approach, system selection direction, and detail strategy within the estimate basis.
  • Production of design assist drawings and models to company standard.
  • Documentation of design decisions, alternates, and their cost and schedule implications, so scope changes are visible while they can still be priced.
  • Concept and proposal drawings for pursuits, delivered to the bid calendar, with buildability and margin risk flagged before estimating hours are committed.
  • Design releases that meet our engineering handoff standard, and participation in the handoff review.
  • Direction and review of one to two designers where assigned.
Qualifications
  • Deep facade system design experience across GFRC, UHPC, and specialty systems, including curtain wall and unitized systems.
  • Design assist execution in commercial construction: architect and consultant coordination, submittal-cycle awareness, decision documentation.
  • Design for manufacturability and cost discipline. You hear a design intent and see the mold count, panelization, and freight implications.
  • Hands-on production capability at senior standard.
  • Composure and credibility in front of architects, consultants, and GCs without backup in the room.
  • The discipline to hold the design scope line when clients push toward engineering, commercial, or field questions, and to route those to the right owner.
  • Clear written communication, including design status reporting and early risk escalation.

Remote, United States. Occasional travel for mockup and sample reviews, plant visits, and in-person coordination.
