Job summary

Orenda in Brooklyn, NY is seeking an Electrical Engineer, Interconnection – Origination Engineering to drive DER interconnection from inception to execution. You’ll draft site layouts and one-line diagrams, perform calculations, and translate complex DER configurations into clear drawings for utilities and stakeholders.

You will manage hundreds of concurrent projects, collaborate with utilities and regulatory bodies, and optimize interconnection costs through precise analysis and strong RFIs.

Qualifications

• ABET accredited engineering degree required.
• Experience in utility distribution planning or interconnection is expected.
• Strong knowledge of IEEE 1547, hosting capacity, and SIR processes.

Responsibilities

• Drafting & Design: Use AutoCAD to create/modify site layouts and single line diagrams.
• Engineering calculations: conduit fill and MV ampacity ratings.
• Translate configurations (PCS, BESS, Switchgear, EVSE) into clear drawings.
• Quality control: ensure drawings align with data and ratings.
• Revision management: update drawings with utility feedback while meeting timelines.
• Interconnection queue analysis and hosting capacity assessment.
• Manage lifecycle of hundreds of concurrent projects from site evaluation to SCADA integration.
• Engage with utilities/regulators and lead technical RFIs/meetings.
