Job summary

Bent County Treasurer's Office in Las Animas, Colorado seeks a Deputy Treasurer to perform advanced financial and administrative duties in support of the elected Treasurer. You will assist with collection, accounting, safeguarding, and distribution of public funds, and maintain records in accordance with Colorado law and county policy.

The role requires accurate recordkeeping, tax-related processing, and the ability to act on behalf of the Treasurer when authorized.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience handling cash, balancing accounts, and serving the public.
• Knowledge of basic governmental accounting practices and records handling.
• Ability to comply with bonding and background-check requirements.

Responsibilities

• Receive and process property-tax payments by mail, in person, electronically, and through financial institutions; issue receipts and respond to payment questions.
• Balance daily transactions, cash drawers, deposits, and electronic receipts; research and resolve discrepancies promptly.
• Maintain accurate tax-roll, payment, escrow, ownership, mailing-address, and related records.
• Prepare deposits, journal entries, reconciliations, reports, and supporting documentation; assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
• Assist with apportionment and distribution of collected revenues to Bent County and other taxing authorities, including settlement reports.
• Support delinquent-property-tax collection, notices, tax-lien sale prep, and treasurer’s deeds processes.
