The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office is seeking Deputy Sheriff Trainees to participate in the POST peace officer training academy. Trainees will learn to serve the community and develop judgment to uphold the Sheriff's Vision.

Deputy Sheriff Trainees have the opportunity to actively participate in the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) peace officer training academy. Sheriff’s Personnel Unit will assess your application to determine if you are minimally qualified using the following recommendations. Any combination of the required experience, education, and training that would provide the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

The Sheriff’s Personnel Unit will screen all applications to identify qualified candidates. Those applicants who meet the minimum requirements for this position will be required to complete a Pre-Investigative Questionnaire (PIQ). Based on the information provided, applicants may be disqualified based on criteria set forth in Part 7, Section 706.1 of the County of El Dorado Personnel Rules and in conjunction with Sheriff’s Selection Policy 1000. After screening, qualified candidates will be referred to the next step and notified of all further procedures applicable to their status in the recruitment process.

Candidates will be invited to participate in the POST Entry Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB).
Applicants who have already taken the PELLETB within the past twelve (12) months of the scheduled examination date may elect to transfer that examination score or sit for the examination again; you must contact Sheriff's Personnel prior to the scheduled exam date to request that your previous score be transferred. Per California POST, applicants may not take the PELLETB exam more than once within a thirty (30) day calendar period.
A T-score of 48.0 or higher is considered passing.
All candidates must participate in the Physical Ability Test (PAT). No prior scores may be used.
If it is determined that you meet the minimum qualifications and therefore eligible to participate, you will receive a link to schedule the written and physical examinations. The PAT and PELLETB are scheduled for: Saturday, November 7th, 2026
Those candidates who receive passing scores for both the PAT and PELLETB will be invited to participate in the oral examination process. The oral exam will be utilized to determine an applicant's ranking and placement on the eligibility list. The oral examination consists of candidates responding to technical questions designed to elicit a candidate's qualifications for the job. The panel members will evaluate each candidate's responses based on predetermined criteria. This oral exam is tentatively scheduled for the week of November 16th, 2026.
No other exam dates will be offered for this recruitment.
