The County of El Dorado's Sheriff's Office seeks dedicated Sheriff's Emergency Call Takers to serve the public by analyzing and prioritizing 911 and non-emergency calls from the Public Safety Facility in Placerville, CA.
Responsibilities include routing calls to the appropriate agency, providing information on law enforcement services, and operating CAD systems to create and coordinate responses while maintaining calm, accurate, and timely communication with callers.

Sheriff’s Personnel Unit will assess your application to determine if you are minimally qualified using the following recommendations. A combination of the required experience, education, and training that would provide the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying; however, education may not solely substitute for the required experience.
Equivalent to graduation from high school; AND One (1) year of public contact.
The Sheriff’s Personnel Unit will screen all applications to identify qualified candidates. Those applicants who meet the minimum requirements for this position will be required to complete a pre-investigative Questionnaire (PIQ). Based on the information provided, applicants may be disqualified based on criteria set forth in Part 7, Section 706.1 of the County of El Dorado Personnel Rules and in conjunction with Sheriff’s Selection Policy 1000. After screening, qualified candidates will be referred to the next step and notified of all further procedures applicable to their status in the recruitment process.

The CritiCall exam will be utilized to determine an applicant's ranking and placement on the eligibility list. The examination will be administered remotely and has been scheduled for November 12th, 2026 - November 15th, 2026. If it is determined that you meet the minimum qualifications and are therefore eligible to participate, you will be notified by email prior to the examination.
If you have taken this examination within twelve (12) months prior to the scheduled date of the examination, you may elect to transfer that examination score or sit for the examination again; you must contact Sheriff's Personnel prior to the scheduled exam date to request that your previous score be transferred.
