Job summary

The Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office in Minnesota seeks a Deputy Sheriff to protect life and property, prevent crime, and enforce laws across the county. You will handle patrols, investigations, and emergency responses, with opportunities for specialized assignments and ongoing training.

Salary scales for 2026 and 2027 are hourly, with a shift differential for night hours; full-time employees receive medical insurance and related benefits.

Qualifications

• Eligibility for Minnesota POST license and firearms certification.
• Class D Driver’s License required.
• Must pass background check, medical, physical agility and psych eval.

Responsibilities

• Patrol county roads, enforce traffic laws and issue warnings or citations.
• Write clear reports and attend training; manage shift activities and equipment.
• Assist emergencies; coordinate with other agencies as needed.
• Conduct initial investigations or full investigations; preserve evidence; interview victims and witnesses.
• Respond to emergencies; determine need for SWAT, K-9 or SAR deployment.
• Engage with violent or mental health crisis situations to protect public safety.
• Administer medical aid until paramedics arrive; make arrests when justified.
• Possibly serve in Court Security, Boat/Water Patrol, School Liaison, SWAT (volunteer), Drug Task Force, DV Surveillance, Drug Court.
• Communicate with the public; develop safety materials and inform communities.
• May transport prisoners; perform Civil Process duties.
• Complete background checks; pass pre-employment physical and psych tests.
