Job summary

The City of Ann Arbor is seeking a Deputy Safety Manager to assist in administering and advancing the City’s safety programs and initiatives. You will lead safety functions such as compliance, training, inspections, incident reviews and risk assessments, and step in for the Safety Manager when needed.

Required: a bachelor’s degree in safety-related field and 7+ years of professional safety experience, with proven ability to develop and implement comprehensive safety programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in safety management, loss prevention, industrial hygiene, engineering, public health or related field.
  • At least seven years of professional safety experience.
  • Experience developing and implementing a comprehensive safety program.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Safety Manager in administration, coordination, implementation and evaluation of the City’s safety programs, policies and initiatives.
  • Provide operational leadership for safety functions including safety compliance, training, inspections, incident review, risk assessment and program improvement.
  • Act on behalf of the Safety Manager during planned or unplanned absences to ensure continuity of safety operations and reduce risk.

Description

Deputy Safety Manager


Salary: $82,000 - $98,500 (salary will be commensurate with experience)

Role Summary:


To support the Safety Manager in the administration, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the City's safety programs, policies, and initiatives. Serves as the Deputy Safety Manager and provides operational leadership for assigned safety functions, including safety compliance, training, inspections, incident review, risk assessment, and safety program improvement. Acts on behalf of the Safety Manager during planned or unplanned absences to support continuity of safety operations and reduce risk to employees, City operations, property, and resources.


Education, Training and Experience (position requirements at entry)


Required:



  • Bachelor's degree in safety management/loss prevention, industrial hygiene, engineering, public health or a related field.

  • At least seven (7) or more years of professional safety experience

  • Experience performing work in the development and implementation of a comprehensive safety program.

  • The City of Ann Arbor will consider an alternative combination of formal education and work experience.


Preferred:



  • Extensive experience in coordinating and servicing multiple work locations

  • Credentials in the Safety area such as an Associate Safety Professional, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, or Certified Utility Safety Administrator (CUSA).
