Job summary

The Aerospace Corporation seeks a Deputy General Counsel to partner with the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, leading a team of attorneys and paralegals across California and Virginia. This on‑site leadership role focuses on strategic legal management, governance, and risk reduction in a fast‑paced space industry environment.

Applicants must have a JD, 10+ years of government contracts experience, and active clearance eligibility; California or Virginia bar preferred.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from a top tier accredited law school with a strong academic record.
• Ten or more years of legal experience practicing with the government, in‑house, or at a law firm.
• Bar membership in good standing; ideally California or Virginia.
• TS/SCI Security clearance or ability to obtain; US citizenship required.
• Experience leading and managing a legal team or office.
• Experience with government agencies; experience advising on federal contracts including FAR, DFARS, ITAR.
• Knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to federal contracts.
• Experience or willingness to develop expertise in AI, data privacy, and cybersecurity.
• Experience managing litigation.
• Ability to travel (20%).

Responsibilities

• Serve as a trusted advisor on legal and compliance matters impacting the organization.
• Partner with senior management to support the legal and business needs of the Aerospace Corporation and further the mission of the organization and its customers.
• Develop and implement legal management systems and procedures to improve office efficiency, communication, and cost management.
• Lead and manage the company’s day to day legal operations, including supervising a superb team of legal professionals.
• Oversee the provisioning of legal services related to transactional, governance, compliance, labor and employment, contracting, financial, technology, and litigation matters.
• Assess and manage risks and potential liabilities inherent in or arising out of the organization’s operations and engagements.
• Retain and manage outside counsel to ensure the provision of client‑centered, high quality, and cost‑effective legal services.
• Manage, mentor, and provide career development to Aerospace’s legal team.
• Prepare and manage the operations budget for the Office of General Counsel.
• Represent the Office of General Counsel on selected internal committees.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and risk mitigation throughout the organization.
