Job summary

Department of Children and Family Services in Louisiana seeks an Attorney Deputy General Counsel 2 (CSE) to serve as the primary assistant in agency legal matters involving CSE, including paternity, child support, and related enforcement. Qualifications

• Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice law.
• Five years of experience as a practicing attorney.
• Knowledge of state and federal statutes, rules, and regulations related to CSE.

Responsibilities

• Organizes, directs, and implements legal and administrative actives to provide legal support services to the clients.
• Directs and supervises the institution, prosecution, defense and/or interventions of any program related lawsuit or administrative hearing affecting CSE.
• Legally reviews and drafts legislation and rulemaking related to CSE.
• Serves as liaison and legal resource between DCFS and the legislative committees on legal matters involving CSE.
• Provides legal analysis and interpretations of state and federal statutes, rules, and regulations to ensure agency compliance and assists staff with implementation.
• Represents the agency at meetings and conferences with federal agencies, other state agencies, District Attorney Offices, political subdivisions, advisory groups and other stakeholder groups.
• Directly supervises five (5) attorney supervisors who collectively supervise attorneys statewide.
• Performs any and all other duties and handles special projects as assigned by the General Counsel and generally assists in all other legal matters of DCFS when required or when requested.
