Kiddie Academy seeks a Deputy General Counsel to lead the legal function from its Abingdon corporate office with an 80/20 in-office/remote setup. You will guide the organization on complex legal issues, support franchise growth, and partner with executives to drive risk-managed decisions.

Applicants should hold a J.D. from a U.S. law school, be licensed, and bring about 6–8 years of progressive legal experience. Strong communication, leadership potential, and supervisory ability are essential.

• J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school and bar admission in good standing.
• Approximately 6–8 years of progressive legal experience, in-house or private practice.

Deputy General CounselAbout the positionThis is a rewarding long-term career opportunity to work with all levels of the Kiddie Academy Educational Child Care corporate team, as well as our franchisees as they make an impact in communities across the country. As the Deputy General Counsel, you will assist with the overall management of the Company’s legal affairs and legal function; provide practical, business-focused legal guidance that supports the Company’s operational, growth, and risk-management objectives; and work closely with executive leadership and departments across the organization to address complex legal and business issues arising within a growing franchise system.The Deputy General Counsel serves as the primary Legal Department point of contact for legal issues arising from the Company’s Marketing, Real Estate, Finance, Education, and Learning and Development departments, and oversees the day-to-day management and development of the Associate General Counsel. You are an excellent communicator, you take great pride in the quality of your work, you are detail oriented, you are tech savvy, and you excel at multitasking.Your Skills and Experience:J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school.Licensed to practice law and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.Approximately 6-8 years of progressive legal experience, whether gained in private practice, an in-house legal department, or a combination of both.Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to build relationships and interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.Experience supervising and developing associate attorneys or other legal professionals, including providing day-to-day guidance, reviewing work product, supporting professional growth, and helping ensure accountability, consistency, and a high level of service within the legal function.Corporate practice experience involving areas such as general corporate matters, transactions, contract drafting and negotiation, service agreements, SaaS and technology agreements, franchise law, employment law, intellectual property law, privacy and data-protection law, regulatory compliance, or other business-related legal issues.Strong organizational and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.Demonstrated leadership potential and a collaborative approach to problem solving.High ethical standards, integrity, discretion, and professionalism.Strong technology skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and related business and legal technology.Excellent computer skills in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Adobe AcrobatWe are growing fast, and the future is bright!
