Job summary

Stand Together is seeking a Deputy Editor to lead Development Communications for grassroots brands in Arlington, VA. You will oversee the editorial calendar, workflows, and handoffs, directly managing writers to deliver donor-facing content that translates policy and strategy into impact.

The ideal candidate brings strong editorial judgment and 3+ years of electoral campaign experience, plus 7+ years in editing and management.

Qualifications

• 3+ years electoral campaign experience translating strategy into donor-facing content.
• 7+ years editing, writing, content strategy, communications, or publishing with direct people-management experience.
• Strong editorial judgment to improve content structure, clarity, tone, message discipline, accuracy, and audience relevance.
• Experience managing complex editorial calendars, workflows, review processes, and cross-functional content projects.
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, translating policy, strategy and priorities into donor-facing content.
• Strong stakeholder-management skills with Stand Together values alignment.

Responsibilities

• Directly manage a team of writers for Development Communications, fostering editorial excellence and collaboration.
• Lead editorial workflow and process improvements across intake, prioritization, assignments, review cycles, deadlines, and handoffs.
• Edit, shape, and occasionally write donor-facing content including emails, proposals, decks, memos, and stewardship updates.
• Own the content calendar for grassroots partners, ensuring content is planned, prioritized, assigned and delivered on deadline.
• Collaborate with Marketing, Fundraising Strategy, Policy, Legal/Compliance, Creative, and Grassroots teams to ensure content is accurate, strategically aligned, and polished.
