Job summary

The City of New York's Department of Design & Construction, Division of Infrastructure, seeks Design Engineers to join its Design Unit in LIC, NY. The position reports to an Engineer-In-Charge and focuses on preparing contract documents, specifications, and final estimates, plus field surveys.

Candidates must meet minimum qualifications: civil engineering degree with experience or master's, and strong communication, software skills (AutoCAD, Primavera P6), and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • A civil engineering degree with at least 1 year of related experience, or a master's degree in civil engineering.
  • Willingness to work on contract documents, plans, and estimates.
  • Familiarity with design standards and field investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare contract documents, specifications, and final estimates.
  • Conduct engineering investigations and develop contract plans and drawings.
  • Perform field surveys, compile reports, and participate in reviews and studies.
  • Design projects with limited supervision and oversight.

Hours: Full-Time – 35 Hours Work Location: 30-30 Thomson Avenue, LIC, NY 11101

The Department of Design & Construction, Division of Infrastructure, is currently seeking Design Engineers to join various sections within the Design Unit - Various.

The successful candidates will report to an Engineer-In-Charge and will be responsible for preparing contract documents, specifications, and final estimates; conducting engineering investigations; and developing contract plans and working drawings.

Additionally, the candidates will conduct field surveys to assess current conditions, compile reports, participate in engineering reviews and studies, and design projects with minimal oversight.

Please note: All candidates must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States (U.S.). In compliance with Public Law 99-603, candidates are required to present original documents proving citizenship or the legal right to work in the U.S. DDC is unable to support or sponsor any visa application or visa extension, including but not limited to OPT/STEM visas, H-1B visas, F-1 practical training, permanent residence sponsorship, or any proposed change of visa type. DDC does not offer a training program as required by U.S. immigration law and is not hiring temporary employees. Candidates must have proper work authorization when an employment offer is made.

Additionally, educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited institution. Credentials from foreign institutions require independent equivalency verification from an approved evaluation service. Minimum Qualifications
  1. 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or
  2. 2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a Master's degree from an accredited college in civil engineering.
Preferred Skills
  1. 1. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  2. 2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD
  3. 3. Construction knowledge relevant to infrastructure projects (sewers, water mains, roadways)
  4. 4. Familiarity with NYC DOT, NYS DOT, NYC DEP specifications, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards
  5. 5. Comprehensive understanding of the NYC infrastructure system and current engineering practices
  6. 6. Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling and Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) credential (preferred)
  7. 7. Valid driver's license (required)
  8. 8. Personal vehicle (optional)
