Job summary

State of California’s Department of Justice, Office of Legislative Affairs Executive Team, seeks a Deputy Director to act as a policy formulator and advisor on high-impact legislation and fiscal operations. Flexible schedules and telecommuting options may be available.

The Deputy Director will ensure fiscal reporting remains accurate across the legislative process and will support attorneys and the Legislative Director on complex legal matters to ensure enforceable and implementable state laws.

Qualifications

• Experience advocating for complex legislation with significant impact.
• Experience developing and implementing policies and procedures for legislative matters and fiscal operations.
• Knowledge of the legislative process and fiscal considerations within a state agency context.
• Experience managing and supervising professional staff including attorneys and administrative employees in legislative, regulatory and fiscal operations.
• Experience coordinating advocacy with the California Department of Finance, the California State Legislature, Governor’s Office, and state agencies regarding proposed and enacted legislation.

Responsibilities

• Advise the Legislative Director, Attorney General, and senior executives on high-impact legislation and fiscal operations.
• Ensure DOJ’s fiscal reporting is accurate throughout the legislative process and support attorneys on complex legal matters.
