Job summary

The University of San Francisco invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Career Success. Reporting to the Director, this role leads the Career Success Team, shaping programs, data strategy, and daily operations to support students and alumni in developing and executing their career plans.

This senior role oversees staff and interns, collaborates across divisions, and represents CSC in university and external partnerships while advancing equity and professional development.

Qualifications

• Master's degree required, preferably in Career Counseling, Counseling, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of related work experience with progression toward roles of increasing responsibility.
• Direct experience working with undergraduate and graduate students and alumni in a college or university setting.
• Advanced knowledge of career development theory, labor market information, and employment trends.
• Demonstrated success advising and facilitating career development independently, including with high-need cases.
• Proven experience selecting, implementing, and evaluating technology and digital tools for administrative and programmatic use, including emerging AI applications.
• Demonstrated ability to function in a leadership capacity with autonomy and prioritization.
• Proven supervisory or team-lead experience, including hiring, training, and evaluating student or intern staff.
• Strong ability and commitment to fostering a collaborative team environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a polished presentation style for senior stakeholders.
• Evening and weekend hours and attendance at professional association events.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Director's designee for daily operations of the career coaching/advising function in the Director's absence.
• Lead the career counseling intern program: hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision.
• May supervise career counselors, including onboarding, training and weekly 1:1 supervision.
• Participate in hiring, training, and mentoring of full-time staff.
• Represent CSC on campus committees and in strategic planning groups.
• Supervise student assistants supporting CSC operations, as assigned.
• Provide individual and drop-in career counseling to students and alumni.
• Advise on advanced job and internship search strategy and salary/benefits negotiation.
• Design, manage, and evaluate the department's workshop and industry-panel curriculum.
• Own the annual review, update, and evaluation of workshop content and instruments.
• Lead research and evaluation of new tools and AI applications for CSC processes.
• Own the department's strategic outreach plan and liaison to schools.
• Lead integration of Career Readiness Competencies across CSC programs.
• Cultivate employer and alumni relationships and represent CSC at events.
• Direct planning and execution of major CSC events, such as career fairs.
• Other duties as assigned.
