Job summary

Cobb County Government seeks a Deputy Director to plan, direct, and oversee 24/7 operations of the E-911 Communications Center. This role provides strategic and day-to-day leadership across operations, administration, and training to ensure high-quality call taking and dispatch.

Lead staff, manage performance, policy, and compliance while advancing NG911 capabilities and interoperability with partners. Strong budgeting, training, and accreditation experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Safety, or related field; five years in emergency communications management or other public safety field with lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Preferred: Master’s degree, Certified Public Safety Executive (CPE), accreditation experience (CALEA/ACE), NG911 implementations, and budgeting/analytics; project management experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead, supervise, and develop assigned staff; recruit, coach, evaluate, and discipline; manage schedules for coverage.
• Oversee 24/7 operations of the E-911 Center; ensure high-quality call taking and dispatch; QA/QI and performance metrics.
• Oversee administration and training functions, including curriculum, certification/licensing, and career development.
• Direct and analyze mission-critical technologies (GIS/NG911/CAD/RMS/telephony); ensure interoperability, cybersecurity, redundancy, and upgrades.
• Manage center facilities, security, power, and asset lifecycle; space planning and continuity of operations.
• Represent department with County leadership, partner agencies, media, and the public; coordinate with stakeholders.
• Oversee accreditation programs (CALEA/ACE, APCO/NENA); ensure policy alignment and audit readiness.
• Assist with budget development and administration; analyze expenditures; adjust staffing models.
• Oversee Open Records intake and compliance; ensure legal adherence.
