Reuters seeks a Deputy Digital Director to lead daily digital coverage, shape programming and presentation of our journalism, and drive audience value across regions and platforms.

This senior, hands-on editor will coordinate with London, manage front-page curation, headlines and alerts, and make real-time decisions under pressure while upholding Reuters Trust Principles.

Based in New York or Washington, D.C., the role requires calm leadership, strong writing and a collaborative approach.

Reuters is seeking an experienced, thoughtful and highly collaborative editor to serve as Deputy Digital Director, helping lead daily digital coverage and shape the programming and presentation of our journalism in ways that put audiences first, deepen engagement and reinforce the value of a Reuters subscription. This senior, hands‑on editorial leader will operate at the center of the daily news cycle, moving seamlessly between breaking news and longer‑term priorities, running news meetings and making sharp real‑time decisions about front‑page curation, mobile alerts, headlines, visuals and coverage coordination across regions and platforms. The successful candidate will combine exceptional news judgment and strong writing with calm leadership under pressure, using audience insights to build habit, loyalty and subscription value while raising standards and creating clarity across a large, complex newsroom. Working closely with a counterpart in London, the Deputy Digital Director will help ensure consistent, high‑quality digital decision‑making across time zones, manage through influence and act on behalf of the Digital Director when required. The position reports to the Digital Director and is based in New York or Washington, D.C.

Key Responsibilities

• Daily news leadership: Lead digital news meetings, set clear priorities and translate audience and subscriber strategy into focused daily execution.
• Digital programming: Oversee the programming and curation of Reuters journalism across platforms, balancing breaking news, enterprise, investigations, analysis and features to deepen engagement and reinforce subscription value.
• Breaking‑news decisions: Make calm, sharp editorial decisions during major news moments, coordinating coverage across desks, bureaus, regions and time zones.
• Presentation and audience impact: Elevate front‑page curation, headlines, mobile alerts, visuals and story presentation, using audience insights and performance data to improve reach, habit and loyalty.
• Cross‑functional collaboration: Partner with reporters, editors, bureau chiefs and visual, graphics, video, social and product teams to deliver distinctive journalism and compelling digital experiences.
• People and standards: Develop a team of digital editors and influence colleagues beyond their direct reporting line, building trust, alignment and consistently strong editorial standards.
• Editorial leadership: Act on behalf of the Digital Director when required and ensure all coverage upholds the Reuters Trust Principles of accuracy, fairness and independence.

Required Qualifications

• Senior newsroom experience: Significant experience as a senior editor in a fast‑paced, high‑stakes newsroom, including leading live coverage and setting priorities during major breaking‑news events.
• Editorial judgment: Exceptional news judgment and the ability to make quick, confident decisions while maintaining accuracy, fairness and independence.
• Digital editing: Strong writing and editing skills, with sharp instincts for headlines, mobile alerts, visuals and story presentation across platforms.
• Audience focus: A strong understanding of audience and subscriber value, supported by experience using analytics and audience insights in editorial decision‑making.
• Leadership and influence: Experience running news meetings, coaching editors and building alignment across desks, regions and teams without relying on formal authority.
• Global perspective: Broad knowledge of international affairs and business news, with an understanding of what serves both general consumers and professional audiences.
• Working style and availability: A collaborative, low‑ego and hands‑on approach; calm, decisive leadership under pressure; and flexibility to work nights, weekends and major news events as required.

• Cross‑functional experience: Experience partnering with visual journalism, graphics, video, social or product teams to create high‑impact digital coverage.

Base compensation range varies across locations. Eligible office location(s) for this role include one or more of the following: New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and/or Irvine, CA; McLean, VA; Washington, DC.

The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $149,200 USD - $277,000 USD. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
