Job summary

The New York City Department of Correction seeks an Executive Agency Counsel to lead the Trials, Adjudications, and Informal Charges units, ensuring fair discipline and efficient hearings for staff and custody cases.

Under the Senior Deputy Commissioner for Investigations, Intelligence & Accountability, you will advise executives, coordinate with multiple agency divisions, and develop policy for discipline while maintaining high professional standards and integrity.

Qualifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar is required.
• Four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant legal experience after admission, including eighteen months in supervision of other attorneys.
• Experience in administrative, managerial, or executive capacity is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations of the Trials & Litigation Division, Adjudications Unit, and Informal Charges & Discipline Unit.
• Direct decision-making on misconduct penalties and oversee disciplinary trials and hearings.
• Collaborate with divisions such as Investigation & Intelligence, Human Resources, Labor Relations, Legal, and Administration to map legal strategy and ensure fair discipline.
