Job summary

The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) seeks an Executive Agency Counsel to oversee the Trials, Adjudications, and Informal Charges units. Under the Senior Deputy Commissioner, you will direct disciplinary proceedings, advise executives, and coordinate with Investigation & Intelligence, HR, Legal, and other divisions.

You will map strategy for litigation of administrative actions and review settlements.

Qualifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar; and four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar, eighteen months of which must have been in supervision of other attorneys, in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or performing highly complex and significant legal work.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee day-to-day operations of the Trials, Adjudications, and Informal Charges & Discipline units.
• Advise and collaborate with multiple divisions (Investigation & Intelligence, HR, Labor Relations, Legal, Administration, Health Management).
• Monitor case preparation for trial or settlement; map legal strategy for litigation; review settlements; develop policies on employee discipline; negotiate with opposing counsel.
