The Deputy Clerk I performs specialized clerical, administrative, and secretarial work in an assigned department.
Responsibilities include:
- Answering telephones and greeting visitors; providing information or referring inquiries to appropriate personnel; routing incoming calls and recording messages; responding to emails and faxes as necessary.
- Utilizing computerized data entry equipment and various word processing and file maintenance programs to enter, store, and retrieve information; maintaining files and records; scanning and copying documents; ensuring files are complete and accurate.
- Processing incoming and outgoing mail, preparing photocopies, and collating materials; distributing mail to appropriate departments or employees.
- Balancing the cash drawer daily and preparing related reports on a daily and weekly basis.
- Maintaining regular and punctual attendance.
- Overseeing vehicle registration and titling; processing renewals and creating daily reports.
- Collecting property taxes and posting them accurately as needed.
- Assisting in the distribution of disability placards, license plates, and specialty license plates.
- Handling public phone calls, processing renewal and title mail, and accepting payments including tax payments, vehicle inventory tax, beer and wine renewals, and tax certificates.
- Calculating and adjusting accounts for court orders.
- Processing dealer work related to the titling of sold and leased cars.
- Overseeing clerical duties related to the collection of ad valorem and tax payments, maintaining inventory, issuing temporary tags, and issuing handicap placards.
- Performing other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED and at least one year of experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Completion of some college coursework is preferred.
- Specific certifications related to the area of assignment may be required.
