SALARY GRADE: Flat Rated

The Office of the Clerk of Superior Court, Jones County, seeks an individual to serve as Deputy Clerk in the North Carolina legal system. Deputy Clerks perform clerical and administrative work in a Clerk of Superior Court office, involving interaction with the public, processing filings, and maintaining case documentation.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Process cash receipts.
  • Review, prepare, and process criminal and civil cases, including misdemeanors, infractions, divorce, child custody, and juvenile cases.
  • Manage case files and produce records during court sessions.
  • Establish and maintain case files for various legal proceedings.
  • Provide sensitive juvenile case information to authorized parties.
  • Administer estates and explain procedures to families.

New hires may be paid above the minimum based on education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of NC statutes, judicial procedures, and legal systems.
  • Skills in math, active listening, communication, data entry, and MS Office.
  • Ability to read legal documents, interact diplomatically, multitask, organize, maintain confidentiality, and work independently.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Preference for Jones County residents and candidates with courthouse or law office experience.
