Job summary

Office of the New York State Attorney General seeks an experienced attorney to serve as Deputy Bureau Chief of the Law Enforcement Misconduct Investigative Office in New York City. The DBC will help manage a statewide oversight bureau, supervise more than twenty attorneys and staff, and work with the Bureau Chief on enforcement and policy strategies.

The role requires nine years of relevant litigation experience, strong leadership, and capabilities in advocacy and outreach.

Qualifications

• At least nine (9) years of complex civil litigation or criminal law experience.
• Experience managing/supervising teams of attorneys and staff is preferred.
• Excellent analytic, research, writing, editing, and oral advocacy skills.
• Familiar with state and federal law governing law enforcement conduct.
• Ability to lead and support colleagues.
• Experience and interest in community outreach and developing relationships that support the bureau’s work.
• Commitment to public service.

Responsibilities

• Supervise more than twenty attorneys and supporting staff located in New York City, Albany and Buffalo.
• Develop enforcement and policy strategies for the bureau.
• Build relationships with covered agencies, community stakeholders, and experts.
• Collaborate with the Bureau Chief to manage the bureau’s legal practice and day-to-day operations.
