Job summary

City of Missouri City, TX seeks an experienced Deputy Building Official to review permit applications, issue building permits, and ensure code compliance within the Development Services Department, Permits and Inspections Division. The role supports safe, efficient development and reports to the Building Official.

The position collaborates with staff to coordinate inspections, provide guidance to stakeholders, prepare reports, and participate in budgeting and division management.

Qualifications

• A degree or higher is required.
• Valid plumbing license and inspection certificate are required.
• CBO certification strongly preferred; ICC Code Specialist designation preferred within trades.

Responsibilities

• Review permit applications and issue building permits in compliance with codes.
• Coordinate plan reviews, provide written direction on permits, and conduct inspections as needed.
• Support division budgeting, prepare reports, and assist with training and staff supervision.
• Represent the Building Official in their absence and lead meetings at job sites.

Associate’s degree or higher

State Plumbing License

Plumbing Inspection Certificate

Certified Building Official (CBO) – ICC

ICC Code Specialist designation (plans/commercial)
