The Transportation Planning and Management Division (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting economic and social vitality in New York City. Responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signage, transit development, freight mobility, and markings, ensuring safety for all road users. TPM’s Design & Construction (D&C) unit oversees geometric design elements of NYC roadways, managing over 6,300 miles of roads, pavement markings, and related infrastructure.
D&C seeks motivated candidates to improve street safety through pedestrian facilities, plazas, cycling, and transit networks, employing engineering measures like traffic calming and road diets. The Borough Deputy Director of Design will handle field investigations, engineering design using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, and oversee borough project engineers' plans, reporting to the Borough Director of Design.
Additional duties include reviewing capital proposals, analyzing designs, providing recommendations, and managing design requests via the Agency Response Tracking System (ARTS) and 311. Oversight of borough markings post-resurfacing and resource allocation are also expected. Candidates should work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and prioritize safety and professional development. Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is recommended, along with adherence to safety regulations.
