The Michigan Department of Corrections seeks a Departmental Technician to support administrative functions, data entry, and reporting related to prisoner movements and releases. The role emphasizes accuracy, adherence to procedures, and collaboration with facility staff.

The Record Office is a complex work area responsible for the interpretation of court documents, intake and release of all prisoners, transfer of prisoners within and outside of the Department, processing of all pending felony charges and outstanding felony warrants, including Extradition Interstate Agreement on Detainers. The Record Office ensures the daily prisoner count is accurate based on the completion of the daily bulletin and review of all movements into and out of the facility. This position researches and analyzes data from MDOC and outside agency databases and prepares reports daily to process prisoner release and assist other facility staff. Review and interpretation of data from the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN), Offender Management Network Information system (OMNI), Offender Management System (OMS), and Offender Watch are necessary to complete all tasks. This position is responsible for data entry, file maintenance, and technical duties related to prisoners’ misconducts, paroles, and discharges. This position works with established methods, procedures, policies, laws, oral and written instructions.

Education typically acquired through completion of high school
One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service.
One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service.
OR
One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service.
One year of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.
OR
One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.
OR
Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service.
Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree and one year of job-related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation. The Department of Corrections may screen out job applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017.

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) with either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their Non-Custody New Employee Training. PLEASE NOTE: Overnight travel may be required for NCNET.
