Job summary

The Institute for Family Health, a non-profit health system in New York, seeks a Department Coordinator for the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. This full-time role supports the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health across operations, education and research.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison with other Mount Sinai departments and services.
  • Manage Family Medicine clinical rotations for medical students.
  • Office manager for the Department and the Family Medicine Inpatient Teaching Service, supporting day-to-day office operations including supplies, purchasing, expense reporting, and space/facility needs.
  • Support related educational programming, including student interest groups, Grand Rounds, the annual Research Symposium and other departmental events.
  • Assist with departmental communications, including maintenance of the department website, faculty profiles, and dissemination of departmental announcements and program information.
  • Provide administrative support for departmental research activities, including assistance with grant development and post-award administrative coordination.
  • Support coordination and communication between the department and affiliated residency programs.
  • Provide administrative support for Department Chair and Vice Chairs, as well as department administration.

Brief Description

The Institute for Family Health is a non‑profit organization committed to providing comprehensive primary health services to underserved communities. In addition to operating health centers in the Bronx, Manhattan and upstate New York, the Institute leads and operates the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the Mount Sinai Health System. The Department is responsible for teaching and mentoring in family medicine within the medical school, operating a family medicine inpatient service in the hospital, providing professional development and oversight for affiliated family physicians, overseeing the Institute's three family medicine residency programs, and conducting research.

We are looking for an energetic staff member with good attention to detail to assist in our growing department. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in the fields of health and non‑profit administration and management. The department coordinator will work with a team of staff, including the Department Chair, the Department Administrator, and the Director of Inpatient Services. This is a full‑time position located at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Department Coordinator will work independently on a variety of activities, including:
  • Serve as a liaison with other Mount Sinai departments and services;
  • Manage Family Medicine clinical rotations for medical students, including administration of clerkship and elective rotations; coordinate onboarding and scheduling with partner clinical sites.
  • Serve as the office manager for the Department and the Family Medicine Inpatient Teaching Service, supporting day‑to‑day office operations including coordination of supplies, purchasing, expense reporting, as well as space and facility's needs.
  • Support related educational programming, including student interest groups, Grand Rounds, the annual Research Symposium and other departmental events as required;
  • Assist with departmental communications, including maintenance of the department website, faculty profiles, and dissemination of departmental announcements and program information;
