Job Description
This position serves as Dental Hygienist for NATIVE HEALTH. The Dental Hygienist performs prophylaxis and examines oral areas, head, and neck for signs of oral disease. The dental hygienist performs deep scaling and root planing on patients who present with periodontal disease. The Dental Hygienist also educates patients on oral hygiene, takes radiographs, and applies fluoride or sealants.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Responsible for conducting comprehensive dental assessments.
- Review’s patient’s medical and dental history for evidence of past and present health conditions.
- Documents all patient-provider interactions following health care standards.
- Participates as an active member of an integrated patient centered team.
- Provides oversight of Dental Assistants.
- Supports the organization as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong knowledge of current evidence-based Dentistry guidelines.
- Skills in providing diagnostic, preventive, and/or therapeutic services to patients.
- Knowledge of public health, community health, and population health.
- Ability to work effectively with staff members who have a variety of backgrounds and training.
- Ability to accomplish the quality and quantity of work expected within set limits of cost and time.
- Ability to plan own work and carry out assignments effectively.
- Ability to communicate with others effectively both orally and in writing in working out solutions to problems or questions relating to work.
- Proficient with computer-based applications such as Microsoft Office.
- Ability to maintain patient dental records and utilize Electronic Health Records (EHR) and associated technologies in said maintenance.
- Ability to establish rapport and gain the confidence of others.
- Ability to function as a health care delivery team member.
- Ability to assess quality patient care.
- Ability to provide cross coverage at NATIVE HEALTH clinic locations as needed.
- Must be able to work with confidential material without betraying the trust of patients, families, or the agency.
- Knowledge of the cultural and social backgrounds of diverse, under or uninsured population.
- Demonstrate adherence to principles of confidentiality, scientific/academic integrity, informed consent, and ethical practice.
- Skill in providing excellent customer service and support; organizing and prioritizing workload.
Qualifications
- Must possess a Registered Dental Hygiene (RDH) license from a dental hygiene school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association.
- Within the first 90 days of hire, must apply to become an Affiliated Practice Dental Hygienist with a current NATIVE HEALTH dentist.
- Experience and training must have been progressive and responsible, demonstrating good knowledge of current principles, practices, methods, and techniques in the field of dental hygiene.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
- Current BLS certification is required.
- Current ACLS certification is preferred.
Standard Employment Requirements:
- Must possess a valid and unrestricted Arizona driver’s license (within 30 days of hire if applicant is from out-of-state) with no DUI/DWI or reckless driving convictions in the last five years. No more than two at-fault accidents in the last three years. Must maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license during employment. Must be insurable under NATIVE HEALTH’s liability auto policy.
- Must pass a criminal background check and obtain a Class I Fingerprint Clearance Card within the initial ninety (90) calendar days of employment and retain a valid card while employed with NATIVE HEALTH.
- Must pass substance abuse testing upon employment and submit to random testing during employment.
- Must provide an updated immunization (IZ) record at the time of employment.
- Must have a current (within 12 months) Tuberculosis (TB) skin report upon employment and provide an annual update.
- Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within (90) calendar days of employment and maintain certification during employment.
