Summary
The Oklahoma City VA Healthcare System is currently recruiting three Dental Hygienists to provide care to our Veterans as part of Dental Service.
Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
- Citizenship: Be a Citizen of the United States. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
- Education: Possess an Associate degree or higher from an accredited dental hygiene program. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved programs include: (1) Dental hygiene programs accredited by CODA; (2) Education completed outside the US considered equivalent to US programs and enabling the candidate to sit for the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination.
- Licensure/Certification: Must be currently licensed to practice as a dental hygienist with a full, unrestricted license in the US or its territories.
- Certification: For radiologic procedures, must meet credentialing standards in 42 C.F.R. Part 75 and be certified as a radiographer. Exceptions apply for non-certified applicants meeting eligibility requirements for licensure, who may be appointed temporarily and must work under supervision.
- Loss of Credential: Management will remove dental hygienists who fail to maintain licensure/certification, possibly leading to termination.
- Grandfathering Provision: May qualify if covered by VA qualification standards for current VHA employees.
- Grade Determinations: For GS-09, at least one year of experience at the GS-8 level demonstrating clinical competencies, along with knowledge, skills, and abilities related to hygiene procedures, radiography, patient education, and assessment.
Physical Requirements: Light carrying (<15 lbs), reaching, handling, walking/standing 8-10 hours, bending, visual acuity, color distinction, and hearing.
Duties
- Perform advanced clinical techniques under general supervision, including supervising students and providing education.
- Customer service, patient care, and assisting with dental procedures and instruments.
- Manage dental imaging, infection control, and sterilization procedures.
- Clerical and information management tasks, including scheduling, charting, and maintaining confidentiality.
- Monitor patient condition and modify care as needed, ensuring safety and effective communication.
- Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Flexible options may be available. Telework is not available.
