Position Summary

Perform prophylaxis and/or periodontal scaling, examine oral areas, head, and neck for signs of oral disease. Educate patients on oral hygiene, take and develop x-rays, or apply fluoride or sealants. Provide local anesthesia as needed for hygiene procedures or restorative treatment, under the Dentist's direction.

Essential Functions
  • Clean calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath gum margins using dental instruments and/or ultrasonic technology.
  • Utilize laser therapy for Gingivitis and periodontal treatment.
  • Review patient medical histories.
  • Examine gums with probes to locate periodontal pockets and signs of gum disease.
  • Visual and tactile examination of gums for sores and disease signs.
  • Expose periapical, bitewing, and panoramic x-rays.
  • Chart conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by the dentist.
  • Maintain dental equipment and sterilize instruments.
  • Feel lymph nodes to detect swelling or tenderness indicating possible oral cancer.
  • Provide clinical services and health education to promote oral health.
  • Apply fluorides or other agents to prevent dental decay.
  • Maintain patient recall system.
  • Administer local anesthetic agents.
  • Remove excess cement from teeth.
  • Conduct community dental health clinics.
  • Remove sutures and dressings.
  • Place and remove rubber dams, matrices, and temporary restorations.
  • Make impressions for whitening trays.
  • Provide local anesthesia for restorative treatments if authorized.
  • Follow all policies and regulations including OSHA and HIPAA.
  • Be flexible to relocate or perform administrative tasks as needed.
  • Maintain consistent attendance.
Skills & Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED; Associate's or Bachelor’s in Dental Hygiene required.
  • Current CPR certification and valid Dental Hygiene License.
  • Ability to administer nitrous oxide and/or local anesthesia if authorized.
  • Knowledge of dental software (Eaglesoft preferred) and Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurance; ability to pass Motor Vehicle Record check.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination form compliance.
