Job description

Job Title: Dental Hygienist/RDH-parttime – fulltime

Salary: 45-50 per hour DOE

Area: Illinois – Oakbrook area

Benefits: none for part time – will discuss for full time

Must have loops and Anesthetic license

SUMMARY

The dental hygienist gathers diagnostic information, provides treatment, and education following the co-discovery process and diagnosis of each patient’s needs and desires alongside the dentist. The hygienist is an integral piece of the dental team that participates in the stabilization and maintenance of patients’ overall oral health.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Gather patient medical and dental history information pertinent to the treatment and diagnosis of the patient.
  2. Take blood pressure readings, as well as blood glucose readings when deemed necessary and educate patient about how systemic conditions often manifest orally.
  3. Expose radiographs when appropriate: FMX: 3-5 years or patient specific (more recent for full mouth rehabilitation cases) Checkup X-rays: 6mo’s-1 yr.
  4. Participate in caries detection with the assistance of Diagnodent, and proper exploration.
  5. Utilize intra oral cameras on each patient to document pathology or even a state of health.
  6. Perform intra and extra oral exams as part of a thorough oral cancer screening.
  7. Complete detailed periodontal exams, including periodontal probing depths, bleeding indices, recession, mobility, furcation’s, gingival descriptions and any mucogingival involvement.
  8. Apply preventative agents such as sealants and fluoride treatments.
  9. Remove calculus/plaque/stain while preserving and protecting all gingival and tooth structure.
  10. Administer local anesthetics when licensed to do so.
  11. Explain the etiology of disease and the whole body-mouth connection as part of patient education and in addition to personalized OHI.
  12. Pass the baton off to the treatment plan coordinator for explanation and scheduling of treatment. This is not done in the treatment room; passed off to the consult room so RDH can move on.
Gingivitis and Periodontal Therapy
  1. Perform Gingivitis therapy or non-surgical periodontal therapy when deemed necessary.
  2. Refer patients to the periodontist when further treatment may be warranted.
  3. Deliver Arestin in pockets of > or = 5mm when < 3 sites require treatment and surgical treatment is not yet recommended or warranted.
  4. Help to guide patients through maintaining their oral health and determining a proper recall.
Additional Duties
  1. Stock rooms at the beginning or end of each day.
  2. Follow proper infection control routines to protect staff and patients.
  3. Maintain complete notes and documentation on all patients treated.
  4. Obtain all necessary CEU’s to sustain licensure and stay current.
  5. Always maintain proper appearance and professionalism in the workplace.
  6. Assist dentist and all staff in any way that helps in patient care and the general flow of the office.
  7. In downtime assist with recall management and scheduling of patient appointments.
