The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Dental Faculty Practice provides general and specialty dental and maxillofacial treatment with faculty from various clinical departments and groups (i.e. general dentistry, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, dental implants, oral medicine, orofacial pain, periodontics, prosthodontics, pathology, radiology, special care, and endodontics). The clinical team consists of caring and competent clinical assistants, hygienists, administrative and financial personnel. An advantage to patients is that they can see multiple dental specialists as part of the same practice; these specialists are clinicians, educators and researchers that are committed to providing the highest quality of care for their patients.

The Dental Assistant Supervisor will supervise, hire, plan, organize, and monitor the work of the other Dental Assistants (DA) in the Dental Faculty Practice, in addition to providing dental and surgical assisting duties to the Dental Faculty Practice. This includes specialty areas such as Periodontology, Prosthodontics, Endodontics, Operative, and General Dentistry. Tasks include DA scheduling, monitoring/implementing clinic policies and procedures, preparing the clinic, ordering/obtaining necessary supplies, materials and equipment for the Dental Faculty Practice, setting up trays using sterile techniques, assisting with a variety of restorative and surgical procedures, assisting with obtaining informed consent, and obtaining and documenting pre- and post-op vitals. The DA Supervisor will be responsible for preparing patients for their procedure and subsequently reviewing post-op instructions, assisting patients and families as needed, and restocking the inventories in the rooms in a prescribed manner. This position will assist clinical faculty in training dental, dental auxiliary, and graduate specialty students in clinical practice as well as providing dental assisting as needed in support of the Dental Faculty Practice. This includes restorative and surgical tray preparation, sterilization of instruments and maintaining asepsis, exposing and processing radiographs, seating and interacting with patients, collecting and recording patient data, taking intraoral photographs, and providing chairside assistance to faculty.
High school diploma or equivalency and completion of an accredited dental assisting program; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
The successful candidate must be able to exercise tact and diplomacy and be flexible in working in different specialty clinics within the Dental Faculty Practice. The Dental Assistant Supervisor must be customer-service oriented and patient-care driven.
Previous supervisory and/or lead DA experience is favorable. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a wide variety of individuals (including staff, faculty, and patients). The ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, to negotiate to achieve successful results, and to thrive in a fast-paced environment while delivering high-level customer service. The ability to work with others and change tasks frequently. Minimum of two years of chair-side dental assisting experience.

To be eligible for a Sign-on bonus, an individual must not have worked in a probationary, permanent, or time-limited appointment in the last 12 months as an employee in North Carolina state government, including without limitation the judicial system, state executive branch agencies, and the university system.
A newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time (more than 20 hours a week) employee is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working more than 20 hours and less than 40 hours per week).
