Job summary

St. Paul Pediatric Dentistry in Alaska is seeking an experienced dental assistant to join our busy, growing practice and work closely with dentists to deliver exemplary pediatric care.

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of dental assisting experience, a current RDA license, and strong customer service, organization, and communication skills. Proficiency with dental software and computers is required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of dental assisting experience as an RDA or CDA.
  • Current license as a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) or Certified Dental Assistant (CDA).
  • Proficiency with computers and dental software.
  • Certification or Associate's Degree from a CODA-accredited program is required.
  • Excellent customer service, organization, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Answer questions about dental hygiene, schedule follow-ups, and provide postoperative instructions; reinforce infection control measures.
  • Disinfect and sterilize equipment to meet infection control policies and safety regulations.
  • Welcome patients and explain treatment plans to ensure comfort during visits.
  • Take and document vital signs and medical history; take radiographs; apply topical anesthetic if needed.
  • Prepare treatment rooms with sterilized equipment, instruments, anesthetics, supplies, and materials.
  • Assist dentists and hygienists during procedures by providing suction and handing instruments; ensure chair-side accessibility.

Job description

Are you an experienced dental assistant who has a passion for working with pediatric patients? If so, we would love to talk with you. Our dental office is busy and growing, with a need for a dedicated assistant to work with our dentists to provide exemplary dental care for our patients. Our ideal candidate has 3 years of dental practice experience in an assisting role, has a current LDA license, and is excellent at customer service, organization, and communication.

Responsibilities:
  • Answer any questions the patient may have about dental hygiene, schedule appointments for patient care follow up, and provide postoperative instructions with methods for infection control of the patients' teeth and gums, after procedures
  • Assure all dental office infection control policies and safety regulations are met by disinfecting and sterilizing all equipment and instruments after use
  • Welcome patient and explain dental care treatment plans so they feel comfortable during their appointment
  • Take and document vital signs and medical history for patient records, take x-rays of patients' mouths, and apply a topical anesthetic for dental procedures, if necessary
  • Get treatment rooms ready for examination and procedures by equipping them with necessary sterilized equipment, dental instruments, anesthetics, dental supplies, and materials
  • Help dentists and dental hygienists during procedures or examinations by providing suction, handing off dental instruments, and ensuring chair-side accessibility to the team
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3 years of dental assisting experience as a registered dental assistant or certified dental assistant
  • Proficiency with computers, and experience updating patient histories, and with dental software is necessary
  • State licensed as a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)

  • Certification or Associate's Degree from a college or technical school training program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation is required
