Responsibilities and Duties:

• Assist the dentist during examination and treatment of patients.
• Prepare patients for dental procedures, sterilize and disinfect instruments, set up instrument trays, prepare materials, and assist dentists during procedures.
• Record medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients.
• Pour and trim study casts, clean and polish removable appliances.
• Assist in managing medical and dental emergencies.
• Prepare dental supply orders, anticipate clinic needs.
• Maintain knowledge of dental equipment and schedules for maintenance/cleaning.
• Record treatment information in patient records.
• Provide post-operative instructions as prescribed.
• Assist at the front desk with administrative tasks such as scheduling, billing, insurance forms, and clerical records.
• Participate in staff meetings and work as part of a team.
• Perform additional tasks as asked by the Dental Practice Manager.

In addition, Certified Dental Assistants may perform:

• Oral prophylaxis
• Instruct patients in oral hygiene
• Application of sealants and fluoride
• Expose dental diagnostic x-rays
• Make preliminary impressions for study casts
• Apply matrix bands, etching, and bonding of tooth surfaces
• Fabricate temporary restorations

This position requires computer skills, the ability to work at a computer workstation, and some knowledge of a keyboard. Long hours may be required.
