Job summary

Prairie Band Health Service seeks a Dental Assistant to provide high-quality dental care at Woodrow Wilson Keeble Memorial Health Care Center in Sisseton, SD. The role includes checking in patients, rooming, taking vital signs, radiographs, chairside assistance, infection control, and clerical duties, following state licensing and center policies.

A high school diploma and applicable dental assisting certification are preferred, with BLS required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Licensed/registered dental assistant with certification preferred.
• If unlicensed, must have five years’ experience and maintain dental radiographer training and license.
• Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Responsibilities

• Check in patients and room patients.
• Take vital signs and radiographs.
• Provide chairside assistance (suction, instrument passing, setup/takedown).
• Perform infection control duties per guidelines.
• Handle clerical duties: patient records and scheduling.

Education

High school diploma

Licensed/registered dental assistant with certification

Five (5) years experience (if unlicensed) and radiographer training

Hours of Operation: normal clinic hours and shifts, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday except Federal holidays

Duties:

Dental assistants perform full-scope clinical duties following appropriate state licensing and clinical policies. This includes but is not limited to checking in patients, rooming patients, taking vital signs, taking radiographs, providing appropriate stress-reduction techniques to anxious patients.

Provide high-quality, attentive chairside treatment such as suction, instrument passing, and procedure setup and take-down.

Infection control duties include instrument reprocessing following applicable guidelines and service unit policies.

Clerical duties of maintaining patient records, and scheduling appointments.

Requirements

• Have minimum of high school diploma
• Preference is for licensed/registered dental assistant with certification from an accredited program.
• If assistant is unlicensed, they must have five (5) years’ experience and maintain dental radiographer training and license. Assistants without radiographer license will not be an acceptable candidate.
• Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
