Scope-Purpose

A dental assistant in Missouri may perform basic supportive dental procedures under the supervision of a licensed dentist.

Education/Experience

Dental Assistant Certificate from an accredited school or 2 years dental assisting experience is required.

Nitrous Oxide certificate preferred.

Expanded Functions Certificates preferred.

Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

• Receive and prepare patients and operatories for dental treatment.
• Take digital x-rays.
• Assist with dental procedures using four-handed dentistry, complete electronic charting, and provide patient education.
• Follow infection control protocols for disinfection and sterilization.
• Recognize basic medical and dental emergencies.
• Display good customer service, communication, and teamwork.

Work hours

Part-time, approximately 20-29 hours per week. Clinic hours are 8:00am to 6:00pm, Monday through Friday, primarily for Mondays, Fridays, and some Thursdays. Hours may adjust based on community needs.
