Job summary

The Program Coordinator at Sunnyside Community Services, Inc. leads planning, coordination, and facilitation of activities for participants in the Social Adult Day Program, focusing on dementia-informed, person-centered engagement for older adults living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

This role requires strong organizational skills, creativity, and initiative to promote cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in recreation, therapeutic recreation, social work, gerontology, human services, psychology, education, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of one to two years of experience with older adults, preferably in social adult day or dementia care settings.
• Knowledge of person-centered and dementia-informed engagement approaches; experience with Alzheimer’s or dementia preferred.
• Ability to work compassionately with older adults, family caregivers, staff, and volunteers.
• Ability to adapt activities for varying cognitive and functional abilities.
• Basic computer skills and ability to maintain program documentation.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a structured, diverse, engaging monthly calendar.
• Plan activities with preparation, materials, and staffing in mind.
• Adapt activities to participants' cognitive, physical, and cultural needs.
• Coordinate safety, documentation, and program quality activities.
• Provide dementia-informed, respectful engagement while promoting dignity and independence.
• Collaborate with the Program Director, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
• Supervise volunteers and participate in team meetings and planning.
