Job Title: Delicatessen Clerk

Department: Delicatessen

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function

As a Delicatessen Clerk, you will handle food safely, keep your work area clean, operate registers, and provide courteous customer service to ensure a positive shopping experience.

Reporting Relations

Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers, Food Service Director, Delicatessen Department Manager

Positions reporting to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service and build rapport with customers
• Greet customers and learn their names when possible
• Assist customers with product location, heavy items, and suggestions
• Answer calls and take orders at the deli counter
• Work with team members to ensure satisfaction and a positive environment
• Review and prepare orders, ensure food freshness, and replenish stock
• Operate registers and handle payments
• Maintain cleanliness and adhere to hygiene standards
• Report to work on time and follow store policies

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

• Wash dishes, order supplies, deliver orders, price products, and assist in other store areas
• Perform other related duties as needed

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics

• Ability to understand instructions and request supplies
• Basic arithmetic skills involving fractions, decimals, and percentages

Education and Experience

Less than high school or equivalent with up to six months of related work experience

Physical Requirements

• Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally and perform physical activities like standing, lifting, reaching, and more
• Visual acuity and other sensory requirements

Working Conditions

Exposure to dust, noise, hazards, temperature extremes, and chemicals in a fast-paced environment

Telephone, fax, copier, computer, kitchen utensils, slicer, scales, delivery van, and other tools

Starting hourly wage: $13.50 to $16.80, depending on experience
