General Function

As a Delicatessen Clerk, you will handle food safely, maintain a clean work area, operate registers, and provide courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to enhance the shopping experience.

Reporting Relations

Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers, Food Service Director, Delicatessen Department Manager

Positions reporting to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service, exhibiting caring, concern, and patience.
• Greet customers with a smile and learn their names when possible.
• Assist customers in finding products, securing out-of-reach items, loading heavy items, and passing along suggestions or requests.
• Answer calls promptly and assist with orders at the delicatessen counter.
• Work collaboratively with team members to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Review and prepare orders, ensure food freshness, and replenish stock as needed.
• Operate registers, handle payments, and maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards.
• Report to work on time and adhere to company policies.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

• Wash dishes, order supplies, deliver orders, and price products.
• Assist in other areas of the store and perform related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics

• Ability to follow instructions and request supplies as needed.
• Basic arithmetic skills involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.

Education and Experience

Less than high school or equivalent experience, with up to six months of related work experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
• Visual acuity and physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions

Exposure to dust, noise, hazards, temperature extremes, and cleaning chemicals in a fast-paced environment.

Equipment Used

Telephone, fax, copier, intercom, computer, calculator, kitchen utensils, slicer, scales, delivery van, pallet jack, knives, etc.
