Job summary

BriarPatch Co-op in Grass Valley, CA is seeking a Service Clerk to join the Deli. This full-time, 40 hours/week role involves preparing, displaying, sampling, and educating customers about the foods we sell, with a friendly, outgoing approach.

You will manage hot & cold bars, follow recipes, maintain par levels, stock duties, and assist with cross-promotions. BriarPatch offers excellent pay and benefits such as Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k) matching, FSA, and EAP.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; CA Food Handlers certificate required or to be obtained.
• Previous deli/restaurant cook/chef experience preferred.

Service Clerk - FT 40 hrs. per wk.

Reports To: Food Services Manager

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Salary Level: $19.00 to $30.00 / hr.

Summary: Responsible to prepare, display, sample, and educate the customers about the foods we sell. Actively interacting with customers in a friendly, outgoing manner. Maintaining Hot & Cold bar and preparing food to maintain abundance in Service case, grab and go and food bar. Sharing samples with customers and having the ability to actively discuss the food including ingredient knowledge.

Customer Service

• Utilize knowledge of natural foods and customer service skills to respond to customer’s inquiries and needs
• Merchandise and promote store products and cooperate as a team member
• Keep informed of membership issues and promote membership whenever possible.
• Actively sample a variety of products from the case and speak to the quality of their prep and production.

Food Preparation

• Cook and prepare salads and other deli products according to recipes
• Follow production sheets and maintain set par levels
• Follow prescribed opening, closing and stocking procedures.
• Keep the service case fresh and full throughout shift.
• Help Ensure stocking and upkeep of Deli floor and shelves.
• Work with Specialty Foods Coordinator and Center store management to work on cross promotions for display and sampling in service case.

Department Maintenance

• Participate in inventories and attend staff meetings as required
• Help maintain Hot & Cold bar standards of cleanliness and upkeep. Including food and supply levels.
• Take on other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities to Safety

• Protect the safety of self, co-worker's, and Briar Patch Co-op patrons at all times.
• Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay.
• Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to supervisor.
• Follow all company and safety policies and procedures.
• Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of self or others.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or GED certificate preferred. Previous experience in deli or restaurant as a cook/chef highly preferred. Graduate of cooking/culinary program preferred. Must have or obtain California Food Handlers certificate prior to or at time of hire.

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively with customers or employees.
