Job summary

Military Deli & Bakery Services is hiring an Assistant Manager/Shift Lead to support the Deli/Bakery Manager at one of our commissary locations. Lead a team of 5–10, ensure excellent customer service, and uphold food safety standards in a fast-paced environment.

You will oversee scheduling, inventory, and staff training while fostering teamwork and efficiency. This role offers growth opportunities across MDBS locations and a path to management.

Qualifications

• 2+ years grocery or 2+ years food service experience.
• Previous shift lead/management experience mandatory.
• Ability to stand and walk short distances for an entire shift.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation.
• Open availability, must work some weekends and closing shifts.
• Must have a valid Food Safety Management Certification or obtain one within 30 days from hire date.

Responsibilities

• Assist Deli/Bakery Manager in providing leadership in the department by directing and managing 5-10 employees.
• Maintain high levels of customer service while meeting commissary requirements and maximizing profits.

• Help to manage inventories by tracking weekly reports and ordering raw materials and supplies.
• Assist in scheduling and training employees and delegating work assignments.
• Prepare, maintain, and track records concerning inventories and monthly profit according to company policy.
• Maintain a safe and clean environment to meet health and safety requirements.
• Develop and maintain professional communication with commissary management to meet financial objectives.
• Monitor customer satisfaction and address issues with improved processes.
• Maintain department records for activity documentation.
• Perform duties of staff as required in this hands-on position.
