Job summary

SBG Defense, located in East Butler, PA, is seeking a Project Engineer to manage defense programs from post-sale through completion. The role blends office planning with floor-level problem solving, coordinating across Engineering, Quality, and Production to meet customer requirements.

You will lead multi-department efforts, interpret government contracts and specifications, and maintain schedules, deliverables, and documentation while supporting manufacturing processes and bids.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field preferred.
  • 4+ years of engineering leadership or project engineering experience, preferably in defense or related manufacturing.
  • Experience with defense contracts, customer specifications, or technical documentation preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Hands-on manufacturing environment experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day lifecycle of assigned defense programs.
  • Coordinate PPAP, First Article Testing (FAT), and Source Approval Request (SAR) activities with Engineering and Quality.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Review customer solicitations and identify technical, contractual, testing, qualification, and documentation requirements.
  • Review and interpret government contracts, customer specifications, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate testing activities and ensure required forms and documentation are completed accurately.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Quality, Production, and other departments to keep projects on schedule.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing processes and procedures related to project execution.
  • Respond to customer questions and assist with resolving technical and project-related issues.
  • Provide hands-on support on the manufacturing floor, including assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and quality-related activities.
  • Ensure project requirements are understood and communicated throughout the organization.
  • Support accurate costing and quoting by identifying technical and qualification requirements during bid and solicitation review.
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams to ensure project goals and deadlines are met.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed to support defense projects and company objectives.
